Then, later, Javier Hernandez ran on to a Ryan Giggs ball and slotted an important goal. Then Berbatov scored late for a win. Overall, Man United were still better. A short tour of Qatar......

Qatar shocked the world ( AND ME! ) when they won the 2022 bid. Here's how we lost, how Qatar won, and why the decision sucked.

We lost because: Our presentation didn't meet expectations. Instead of perhaps some musical and theatrical people, we chose to make Americans think of us as ever bigger plonkers. Nice job.

We have plenty of things other than kangaroos and Vegemite in Australia. Now, if we could just convince Frank Lowy about that.......

Why Qatar won: Bribery. They splashed millions on FIFA with gifts and luxury hotels. Money CAN buy love!? Yes. Well, why isn't that corruption? FIFA are an organisation, not a business.

They can do whatever they like. It's still unfair, but it's not corruption.

Why the decision sucked: 1. In the Qatari summer, it gets up to 50 degrees. Leave a raw egg on a player's head, and it just might fry. 2. Qatar has no movie stars or music stars. I think I hear someone saying "Like YOU have better!" Umm...... Guy Sebastian, Jessica Maubuoy, AC/DC, INXS, Wolfmother, Short Stack- AND THAT'S JUST THE MUSICIANS! 3. Their mascot is a lion. How original. Just last year we had a leopard! The first one was a lion! Genius! 4. The Lonely Planet called Doha, Qatar's capital, the dullest place on earth. 5. A tiny population of 1.7 million. 6. There are only 5 stadiums. 7. Qatar have never qualified for a world cup, and isn't the world cup about soccer?

My Perfect XI! With..... Steven Pienaar!

WARNING! WARNING! This has not been authorised by Pienaar, but these are his words!

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart was the best goalkeeper in the EPL last season while on loan to Birmingham. He's difficult to beat, and has an old head on young shoulders. He'll do well for City.

Defenders: Glen Johnson is a great right-back, I like how he bombs forward and creates goals. On the left, I've gone for my Everton teammate Baines- he's top quality.Then my centre-backs are Dawson and Vermaelen. Dawson is one of the best in England and Vermaelen was a genius signing for Arsenal.

Midfielders: Luka Modric has got all the skill in the world and an excellent football brain. I picked De Jong in the anchor role as he's really tough and wins lots of tackles. Fabergas is one of the hardest players I've faced- you never know what he'll do next! Florent Malouda was on top form for Chelsea last season. He's a superb dribbler and crosser-I really rate him.

Forwards: Chelsea's Drogba is a frightening prospect for any defender. He's well built but there's so much more to him than brute force. I couldn't not pick Rooney: Wayne's one of my favourite strikers. He can score goals for Man United and is a serious team player. What a strike force! See ya!-Free-Kick!
